Speenghar Tigers win a thriller to record first win of the season

Speenghar Tigers overcame a match-threatening half-century by Mohammad Nabi to beat Mis-e Ainak Knights by 4 runs in the season’s first thriller at Kabul Cricket Stadium and record their first victory of the tournament.

Having won the toss, tigers skipper Shafiqullah Shafaq opted to bat first in the 9th match of the tournament. Najibullah Taraki’s knock of 68, Shafiqullah Shafaq’s 31 and Shahidullah Kamal’s 23 helped the Tigers post a good total of 177/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Shafiqullah Ghafari was the pick of the bowlers for Knights taking two wickets.

In response, half-centuries from skipper Mohammad Nabi and youngster Ghafari took the Mis-e Ainak Knights close to a thrilling victory. However, after Mohammad Nabi lost his wicket to Sayed Ahamd Shirzad after hitting the latter for 16 off the first 3 deliveries in the over, the Knights could not capitalize on the former’s innings and fell short by 4 runs as Mohammad Nawaz took two wickets in his Final over.

Speenghar Tigers’ Najibullah Taraki was awarded player of the match award for his tremendous half-century that included 5 fours and 5 sixes.

Tigers will face Band-e Amir Dragons tomorrow in their next match of the tournament while Knights will take on table-toppers Kabul Eagles on 13th.
